The Community of Rossett is made up of the villages of Rossett itself, Burton, Lavister and Trevalyn. The population is approximately 3,500.

It is situated in the Wrexham County Council area, almost equidistant between Wrexham and Chester.

The villages are popular with commuters to North Wales and the north west of England offering excellent road links to the A483, A55 and M53.

There are a couple of possible derivations for the name of Rossett. The most likely is from the Welsh translation Yr Orsedd which translates to a mound or hillock and could refer to an ancient hill fort or meeting place on the nearby Marford Hill.

Another suggestion is a corruption of Y Rhosydd meaning marsh or bog.

A settlementin the Rossett area can be traced back to the 11th Century when the Domesday Book of 1086 refers to a mill on the site occupied by Marford Mill, now the national headquarters of BASC the British Association for Shooting and Conservation. Many people are surprised that the more well known and recognisable Rossett Mill wasn't built until 500 years later than Marford Mill in 1588. Rossett Mill, is a Grade II listed watermill built in 1588. Of timber framed construction on a stone base, the mill was extended in 1661 and during the 1820s. The mill is occasionally opened to the public for visiting.

The landscape artist J. M. W. Turner sketched the building in 1795.

The parish of Rossett which consisted of the townships of Burton and Allington was formed in 1840 when it was separated from the large parish of Gresford. The village did not contain a church and up until 1840 residents would travel to All Saints Church in Gresford for their religious services.

In 1841 the first Christ Church was erected but was replaced by the existing church which was constructed between 1891 and 1892. The grade II listed Church sits on land donated by James Boydell of Rossett Hall and there are stained glass windows within the Church dedicated to the family.

O'r adeiladwaith ffrâm bren rhestredig Gradd II ar sylfaen o gerrig, mae'r Roedd melin estynedig yn 1661 ac yn ystod y 1820au. Mae'r felin yn cael ei agor yn achlysurol i'r cyhoedd am ymweld.

Mae plwyf Orsedd a oedd yn cynnwys y trefgorddau Burton a Allington Ffurfiwyd yn 1840 pan gafodd ei gwahanu oddi wrth y plwyf mawr Gresffordd. Nid yw'r pentref oedd yn cynnwys eglwys ac y byddai hyd at 1840 o drigolion yn teithio i Eglwys yr Holl Saint yng Ngresffordd am eu gwasanaethau crefyddol.
